Cisco PVDM3-256 Overview

Cisco PVDM3-256 DSP Module brings new rich-media capabilities to Cisco® Unified Communications Solutions. High-density voice connectivity. Conferencing, transcoding, and transrating. Management of voice quality. Power savings, secure voice, and more. The module resides on the Cisco 2900 and 3900 Series routers to enable these capabilities.

The next-generation high-density packet voice digital-signal-processor (DSP) modules are available in six densities: PVDM3-16, PVDM3-32, PVDM3-64, PVDM3-128, PVDM3-192, and PVDM3-256. The modules have 16, 32, 64, 128, 192, and 256 channels, respectively.

  • Channel Capacity:
    • Supports up to 256 simultaneous voice channels, making it one of the highest-density DSP options available for Cisco ISR G2 routers.
  • Flexible Codec Support:
    • Offers compatibility with a wide range of voice codecs, including:
      • G.711: Uncompressed, high-quality voice.
      • G.729: Compressed codec for bandwidth-efficient communication.
      • G.722: High-definition voice codec for superior audio quality.
      • G.726: Adaptive Differential Pulse Code Modulation (ADPCM).
      • T.38: Fax relay support over IP.
  • Advanced Voice Processing:
    • Enables voice transcoding, allowing communication between endpoints using different codecs.
    • Cisco PVDM3-256 DSP Module Supports multi-party conferencing features, facilitating high-quality conference calls.
  • Unified Communications Ready:
    • Fully compatible with Cisco Unified Communications Manager (CUCM) and Cisco Unified Border Element (CUBE), allowing for integrated voice, video, and data services.
  • Secure Communication:
    • Supports Secure Real-time Transport Protocol (SRTP) for secure voice transmissions, ensuring the integrity and confidentiality of communications.
  • Energy Efficiency:
    • Designed to be more power-efficient than previous DSP modules (like the PVDM2), providing higher channel density without significantly increasing power consumption.
  • Scalability:
    • Part of the PVDM3 family, allowing integration with other variants (PVDM3-16, PVDM3-32, PVDM3-64, PVDM3-128) to meet various capacity needs, enabling easy scaling based on organizational requirements.
