Cisco GLC-T Overview

Cisco GLC-T is a 1000BASE-T SFP for Copper Networks. The 1000BASE-T SFP operates on standard Category 5 unshielded twisted pair copper cabling of up to 100m (328 ft) link length. Cisco 1000BASE-T SFP modules support 10/100/1000 autonegotiation and Auto MDI/MDIX. This SFP needs RJ-45 connector (1000BASE-T).

Features and Benefits:

  • Gigabit Ethernet over Copper: Supports 1000BASE-T, enabling high-speed Ethernet connections over existing copper infrastructure (Cat5e/Cat6 cables).
  • Plug-and-Play: The transceiver is easy to deploy, offering automatic negotiation between 10, 100, and 1000 Mbps.
  • Cost-Effective: Reduces the need for fiber optics in short-distance applications and allows network administrators to utilize existing copper cabling.
  • Hot-Swappable: Can be inserted and removed without disrupting network operation, making it highly flexible for dynamic network environments.
  • Power Efficiency: The GLC-T transceiver is designed to consume low power, helping to reduce overall energy usage in network deployments.
