Cisco PVDM2-16 Overview
The Cisco High-Density Packet Voice Digital Signal Processor (DSP) Module (PVDM2) enables Cisco Integrated Services Routers to provide high-density voice connectivity, conferencing, and transcoding capabilities in Cisco IP Communications solutions. Cisco Integrated Services Routers provide enterprises and service providers with a toll bypass solution by connecting their existing telephony equipment (such as private branch exchanges [PBXs], key systems, analog telephones, and fax machines) to a toll-free data network and eventually migrating customers to Cisco Unified Communication Architecture for Voice, Video and Integrated Data IP telephony solutions. The high-density packet voice DSP modules are available in five versions: PVDM2-8, PVDM2-16, PVDM2-32, PVDM2-48, and PVDM2-64.
Some Product Features :
- 16-Channel Support: The PVDM2-16 module supports up to 16 voice channels, enabling the router to process voice traffic for small to medium-sized VoIP deployments.
- Digital Signal Processing (DSP): The module offloads voice processing tasks from the router’s CPU, providing dedicated hardware to handle voice compression, conferencing, transcoding, and fax relay services.
- Supported Codecs:
- G.711: Uncompressed, provides high-quality voice.
- G.729: Compressed codec, ideal for bandwidth-saving in VoIP environments.
- G.726: A codec that supports ADPCM (Adaptive Differential Pulse Code Modulation) for higher voice quality at lower bitrates.
- T.38: Used for fax relay.
- VoIP Services:
- Transcoding: Converts voice streams between different codecs, allowing devices using different codecs to communicate.
- Conferencing: Supports multi-party audio conferencing.
- Secure Voice (SRTP): Supports Secure Real-time Transport Protocol (SRTP) for encrypted voice communication.
- Form Factor: It is a modular card that fits into the PVDM2 slot on routers such as Cisco 2800 and 3800 series ISRs.
- Applications:
- Voice over IP (VoIP) services in branch offices or small enterprises.
- IP-based conferencing and transcoding for mixed codec environments.
- Support for Fax over IP (FoIP).
